Shima Ghedia
Emergency & Aeromedical Physician - Rfds Qld
Professional Bio
Dr Shima Ghedia graduated from The University of Sydney. From her first day as an intern at Nepean and Westmead Hospitals fell in love with the excitement and vigour of Emergency Medicine. Whilst having a young family would put many off from the rigours of EM training, she was determined and successfully became a FACEM in 2007.
During her career she held many roles: from Director to DEMT. She worked in Private and Public, as a Senior Staff Specialist and VMO. It wasn’t until her children left school, that she felt able to follow her long term dream of working in Retrieval. She moved to Mackay in Queensland where she went back to the Registrar life with LifeFlight Helicopter Rescue. She also concurrently completed her Grad Cert in Aeromedical Retrieval. She considered herself fortunate when she was tapped on the shoulder and asked if she would consider coming to work for RFDS Queensland - especially as her late father had been a flying doctor when she was just a baby.
Today she is a FIFO Aeromedical Officer based in Mount Isa. She fills out her time with Defence Rescue Helicopter and Air Ambulance work, as well as occasional Emergency department shifts. She routinely does RFDS Telehealth, dealing with emergencies on remote outback stations and rural clinics, from her home on the sunny Gold Coast.
