Other Submission - Oral Presentation

Abstract Description
As a junior clinician all I wanted to be was a “bush doctor” (rural generalist). Apart from some short lived positions, this didn’t work out sustainably for me. I’m an emergency physician now, still with a heart for rural practice and country, living regionally. For the last decade or more, my clinical practice has had an overt side hustle in wellbeing practice and education for myself, my colleagues and anyone who is interested. This has taken on many forms from being part of WRAPEM, activity and roles within ACEM and a professional coaching practice.
In 2022 I joined the rejuvenated TEMSU (now Retrieval Services Queensland RSQ Telehealth) practicing emergency medicine with rural and remote clinicians of emergency departments all over Queensland. It’s a great job. What I didn’t know was how many elements this particular type of telehealth holds that promotes resilience and sustainability and engagement. What I have experienced is a new methodology for empathy and compassion to be delivered with clinical excellence.
This oral presentation will outline the landscape of ED model of Telehealth in Queensland and its power to bring equity to the care of all people presenting throughout the state; how we are meeting the (not so unique, but bespoke) challenges of different facilities and places, working with and supporting rural clinicians to flourish as well, leaning into a sustainable workforce and supported practice and as a Telehealth Emergency Consultant how I may just have found my burnout antidote/prevention
